This
website is about Vedic Astrology, Vedic jewlery, charts, mathematics,
jyotish, ancient jutish - a basic guide to vedic astrology.
Vedic Astrology is also called Jyotish, or “the science
of light”, originating in India about 6000 years ago.
It roots lie in the Vedic scriptures of the Hindu faith and
in Indian Astrology, and it is also mentioned in the Ramayana,
the Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita. Jyotish is a highly
complex science, filled with vast amounts of information that
intermingle and affect each other, stretching from every subject
- scientific, mathematical, esoteric, historical and mythological
among them, thereby described as a complete, pure, glorious
and divine source of knowledge. This pursuit of knowledge is
what the Jyotish claim to be the core of Vedic Astrology.
The
Vedic’s philosophy is based on the law of karma, and
the interconnectedness of all things in the universe, forming
the basic principles of the science. The Jyotish differs from
Western astrology mainly in that it follows the Sidereal Zodiac,
which focuses on the influence of the planets, rather than
the Sun. The Moon is also strongly emphasized, representing
one’s relationship with the world, an influence that
shapes perception and attitudes, seen in the unique use of
Nakshatras, or lunar constellations. For more information
on the difference between the Western and Jyotish Astrology,
please see our Resources links.
Although Jyotish is a complex and highly sophisticated
labyrinth of knowledge, we can, for simplicity’s sake,
note that is mainly used for these purposes:
- To examine and understand human behavior
and relationships.
- To predict the past, present or future.
- To overcome suffering or problems through
a system of remedies called Upayas.
- To analyze and attain a spiritual direction
on one’s life, or Dasha and Disha.
To achieve this, the Jyotish have devised a
scientific series of systems and formulas, mainly mathematical,
using the birth or natal chart to discover a wealth of information
about the individual, from personal and physical characteristics,
to spiritual, financial and academic achievements, marriage
status and advice, karmic problems, positive career choices,
past lives and even beyond that. To then further aid the individual
in his life, they offer the Muhurtha or Electional Astrology,
which pinpoints inauspicious and auspicious days and dates
for various activities, important and mundane, as well as
supplying appropriate Upayas, or remedies for one’s
troubles and afflictions.
