Mahadasha
- In Vedic Astrology, each planet rules over different cycles in time, and these changing periods are called Mahadashas. The length of time in each period varies with each planet, with the longest running for 20 years (Venus), to the shortest (the Sun), which runs for 6 years. These periods are then broken down further into sub-periods or Bhuktis, which can also vary from 1-3 years. The Jyotish believe that change in the Mahadashas often herald significant transformations or the beginning of a new phase in one’s life.
